Dr. Margaret Portela
Dr. Margaret Portela is board-certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. Raised in North Arlington, NJ, Dr. Portela graduated from Queen of Peace High School. She then earned her Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in Zoology and Physiology from Rutgers University in Newark, NJ. She received her medical degree from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Portela completed her three year podiatric surgical residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, serving as Chief Resident in her third year. Upon graduation from the residency program, she joined her current practice. Dr. Portela's academic journal publication- Neurothekeoma in the foot: a rare occurrence- has been cited as a reference by various research publications. She is fluent in Spanish. Dr. Marjorie Rarama

Dr. Thomas DeBenedictis
Dr. Thomas DeBenedictis was born and raised in Union City and graduated from Emerson High School. He then received a diploma in nursing after attending Christ Hospital School of Nursing in Jersey City, NJ. After joining the U.S. Army, he then became a registered nurse anesthetist for Walter Reed Army Medical Center. After completing 6 years of active duty, Dr. DeBenedictis started his podiatric medical education studies at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine in Manhattan. As for his surgical residency training, Dr. DeBenedictis completed training at both Yale University & West Haven VA Medical Center. He and Dr. Testa then started their podiatric practice here in Union City in the 1980s. He is board-certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery, a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel, and has completed over 35 marathons. |
